On June 15,2004, Siemens Industrial Automation Ltd., Shanghai (SIAS) signed a contract with ATOFINA Company of France concerning about a peroxide project.

This peroxide project is a chemical project that was invested by ATOFINA Company of France in ChangShu of China. The equipment is a typical equipment of batch control. It consists of eighteen recipes. Each recipe is used to produce a product. The control system requires high safety because it will be used in an area of flammability and explosive. The system consists of a set of traditional control system (DCS) and a set of fail-safe control system (ESD). For the fail-safe control system, it is prerequisite to obtain the certificate of TüV as the safety level must be achieved to AK6.

According to the characteristic of equipments and requirements from our customer, we selected the PCS7 process control system of SIEMENS to be the automation system of the project. For the traditional control system (DCS), we selected the PCS7 redundant automation system AS-417H to be the hardware platform to realize the control for the equipment and the communication with the measure weight system. And for the control system of cool room, we selected the PCS7 engineering tool software and batch software to be the software platform to realize the real time control and batch control. For the fail-safe control system, we selected PCS7 fail-safe automation system to be the hardware platform to realize the safety control.

In the project, SIAS is responsible for the automation control engineering for the peroxide project, the engineering service includes: hardware and software supply for traditional control system and fail-safe control system, project management, application software design, system integration, commission and testing, customer training.
